bridge" and creates a transparent connection between the enterprise
network and network segment in the Cloud.
Cloud Brokering
The typical internal IT department will most likely be faced with the
challenges to provision the employees for the Cloud services purchased. This
could be easily handled for a small number of employees but is a nightmare
for large organizations. The end‐user on the other hand could be forced to
enter a different username and password for each Cloud service provided.
To overcome this situation the Cloud industry is working on several
solutions, one solution could be to get all services to accept an authorization
token from a Cloud authentication service. Another solution could be to
manage the credentials and the provisioning of the various services out of
the IT department and provide a kind of service portal to the end‐user.
Examples of this technology are Citrix Cloud Gateway or VMware Horizon.
Changes to internal IT services ‐ virtualisation
If a Private Cloud service should be built, on‐premise one of the first steps is
to achieve maximum decoupling and/or isolation of the various functional
levels. This is achieved by consolidating and virtualising the basic
technologies (servers, storage, networks) and applications. This enables IT to
create independent modules and functional layers. Because the usage of a
centralised and virtualised infrastructure is a key factor for any Cloud
method, great care and attention must be paid when establishing these
resources. A robust, highly available system must be created, with the
correct choice of architecture making it possible to achieve the desired
savings and flexibility.
Introducing system management
The essential backbone of a Cloud based infrastructure is pervasive,
consistent and centralised system management which must ensure that the
desired infrastructure is reliably available in line with the Service Level
Agreements. System management systems of this kind monitor operational
specifications, automating event handling, enforce strict change
management, guarantee logging of billing data and thus ensure stable and
successful operations.
Automation and provisioning
In the context of deploying Clouds, management platforms for support
organisations (in house or external) offer standardised IT solutions using
automated workflows. Cloud platforms designed for enterprise‐class service
