Outlook
Due to the full‐service nature of virtualisation (applications, desktops,
servers, network and storage), the full‐service nature of the approach (IaaS,
DaaS and SaaS) and the high degree of scalability through the use of building
blocks, a basis has been created for serving the needs of current and
prospective users, while at the same time reducing the amount of resources
and applications required on a sustainable basis.
Due to this dynamic, for the KIVBF new services to the customers are
possible, which can be offered with different business models, e.g. as time‐
based, resource‐based or process‐based usage.
Caused by the special nature of this project, great nationwide interest within
the public sector is currently being shown in this Cloud initiative – as it will
play a key role in the development and expansion of all public datacentres in
Germany.
The partnership between KIVBF and COMPAREX and the vendors Cisco,
Citrix, McAfee, Microsoft, NetApp and Zenoss should ensure the stability of
the kiv.TrustedCloud.
In May 2012, the EuroCloud Deutschland_eco association conferred the
EuroCloud Deutschland Award on the technologically pioneering KIVBF and
COMPAREX project in the category ‘Best Case Study Public Administration’.

Summary of case studies
Based on these examples, one can envisage many options for Cloud
computing. These case studies show applications where Cloud computing
has been introduced, along with the expected benefits. You may see
parallels to your own enterprise in various cases where the examples give
you the impetus needed to think about changes. Economic reasons are not
always the major driver; this could just as easily be security, scalability and
availability. However, the bottom line will always be a cost/benefits
equation, which will point in favour of using Cloud‐based services in many
cases.
